Lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis), also known as Lungwort, is a herbaceous, evergreen, perennial plant of the genus Pulmonaria, which belongs to the Boraginaceae family. The genus name is derived from the Latin pulmo meaning lung and was first used by Leonhart Fuchs (1501–1566), a German physician, to treat coughs and chest ailments.
Today it is recommended in the form of a decoction to treat chronic bronchitis, shortness of breath, asthma, sore throat and cough, while it is also considered ideal for cleaning the lungs of smokers.
It also combines well with other herbs, such as Cough to treat chronic cough and whooping cough and Thyme to protect against microbial infections. It should not be used for prolonged periods and during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Herbs are and should be treated as medicines. We recommend that you always consult your doctor before using them.
