Black Hawthorn is a deciduous shrub or small tree 2–9 meters tall, with a short crooked trunk and stout branches, that thrives mainly in eastern North America. The official name of the tree is Viburnum Prunifolium, while a useful part in botany is its bark.
Hawthorn is considered a muscle relaxant with analgesic properties and spasmolytic action. It is used to reduce pain during the menstrual cycle. Effectively treats dysmenorrhoea and radiating pain in the thighs and lower back with a sinking feeling in the pelvis, while acting as a uterine relaxant.
To prepare a decoction, add 2 teaspoons of the root to a mug and consume up to 3 times a day. Prolonged use of the herb for more than 3-4 days is not recommended.
