Burdock

Burdock (Arctium Lappa - Burdock), commonly called Burdock, is a biennial plant of the Asteraceae family, reaching 3 meters in height, with large, alternate, wavy leaves that have a long stalk. Its name comes from the ancient Greek word arktos (bear) and is mentioned by Dioscorides as an active herb against liver and lung cancer. Useful parts of the plant are the root, leaves and seeds. The leaves of Burdock are used externally as a poultice to treat skin diseases such as acne and eczema. Their strong antimicrobial and antioxidant action promotes blood circulation on the surface of the skin, fighting bacteria and improving its quality and texture. When taken internally as a decoction, Burdock root is a good source of antioxidant chemicals that help protect cells from damage. In addition, the strong antioxidant effect of the root of the plant is considered to help reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, etc. Consumption of the herb is generally considered safe, but prolonged use is not recommended.
