Ginseng (Panax ginseng ), also known as Asian ginseng, Chinese ginseng or Korean ginseng, is a perennial plant of the Araliacea family, which grows in the mountains of East Asia and is mainly cultivated in Korea. It was first discovered in China 5,000 years ago and its root gained great commercial value after the 3rd century BC. Historically it was used by the Chinese to stimulate the body and to this day they use it as an adaptogen, as they believe that it adjusts its action according to the needs of each individual. Useful part of the plant is its root.
Today Ginseng is one of the most widespread herbs due to its high tonic effect and is used to treat physical and psychological fatigue and in cases of intense emotional and mental stress. It is also considered very effective in cases of sexual dysfunctions and during periods of intense sports activities.
In the context of the general revitalization that Ginseng offers to the body, research has highlighted its usefulness against fatigue in people with multiple sclerosis, as well as its contribution to various cognitive disorders related to aging.
Ginseng consumption is recommended to be done in the morning, as the evening can lead to overexertion and insomnia. Also, it should not be consumed for long periods of time and in combination with other stimulants. Avoid its use by hypertensive people and during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Herbs are and should be treated as medicines. We recommend that you always consult your doctor before using them.
