Lamium is a perennial fluffy plant of the Lamiaceae family, which grows throughout Europe and Western Asia. It is very similar to nettle and in many parts of Europe the fresh leaves of the plant are used in salads.
Its components (glycosides) have anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant and healing effects. It also contains tannins with astringent and hemostatic properties. In traditional Asian medicine it has been used to treat many diseases, such as paralysis, leucorrhoea, uterine bleeding, menorrhagia, inflammation of the vagina and cervix, but also to heal wounds, fractures and insect bites.
Today it is used to treat leucorrhoea (internally) and to treat varicose veins (externally).
