Raspberry, also known as framboise, with the botanical name Rubus ideaus, is a perennial wild plant that produces small red fruits. Raspberry fruit and leaves have been used as medicine for centuries.
Raspberry leaves are often used to strengthen and stimulate the uterus during the last months of pregnancy and labor, helping contractions and preparing expectant mothers for an easy delivery. Also, raspberry leaves are rich in tannins and are considered an effective astringent, particularly useful in children's diarrhea. In addition, they contain vitamin B6, which helps relieve PMS symptoms, including irritability and mood swings.
Drinking raspberry leaf tea is generally considered safe. Expectant mothers are recommended to consume 3 cups of the drink daily, but only during the last three months of pregnancy.
Herbs are and should be treated as medicines. We recommend that you always consult your doctor before using them.
