Tea Tree essential oil has an earthy, fresh, woody aroma and should not be confused with the plant that produces the well-known drink, as it is toxic and should not be ingested. It is used topically and diluted to treat fungal infections (athlete's foot, teenage fungus, acne, lice, etc.), to fight bacteria, to heal wounds quickly and to treat various skin inflammations.
It has strong antiseptic, antifungal and antimicrobial properties and provides effective disinfection and healing. It is often recommended to women for vaginal washes in cases of candidiasis or trichomoniasis.
Added to a base oil for body massage, relieves pain from rheumatism. It is used in shaving and epilation reducing redness and irritation. At the same time, its antiseptic properties make it ideal for use in mouth products, toothpastes and mouthwashes.
"The Tea Tree, with the official name Melaleuca Alternifolia, is a species of small tree - tall shrub of the Myrtaceae family, endemic to Australia. It has been used in folk medicine by Indigenous Australians by inhalation to treat colds and coughs. Today essential oil is extracted from the tree for commercial purposes."
