Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

Vitamin C has the ability to improve skin elasticity by increasing collagen production. For this reason, you will find it in many anti-wrinkle cosmetics. In addition, it protects against UV radiation and is used as a natural enhancer of sunscreen products. One of the great advantages of Vitamin C is that it often proves to be effective in reducing skin discolorations (black spots, freckles, etc.), when used only topically.

Finally, the use of Vitamin C combats free radicals (hydroxyl radical), thus presenting an antioxidant effect. It can be used as an ingredient in many homemade cosmetics, such as creams, lotions, sunscreens, shampoos, lipsticks, etc.

It is water soluble and is usually used at a rate of 0.2-4.0%. It is in the form of a white crystalline powder, but completely colorless when dissolved in water. It has a pH of 2.4-2.8 (in a 2% solution in water) and has a characteristic acidic taste.
