Artemisia vulgaris, the common Wormwood, is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family Asteraceae, native to Europe and parts of Asia and Africa. It has traditionally been used as a flavoring in cooking and as a medicinal herb. The dried leaves are often smoked or drunk as a tea to promote lucid dreaming, which is believed to be due to the thujone substance contained in the plant. The Chinese have been using Wormwood since 500 BC. while today it is an important herb in Moxatherapy (burning of herbs in acupuncture points). In addition, it is used to relieve problems of the digestive system, stomach and intestinal disorders and for irregular menstruation. Its consumption should be done with great care and only under the supervision of an expert. Prolonged consumption may cause dizziness and headaches. It should not be used during pregnancy because it causes contraction of the uterus. For the preparation of a drink, the usual recommended dosage is 10g. in a liter of water and about 15 minutes of boiling. It is consumed in 3 doses, morning, noon, evening between meals and it is not recommended to use outside the limits.
