Basil

Basil essential oil relieves mental fatigue, clears and renews a weak or indecisive mind and effectively treats nervous disorders. It contributes beneficially to the treatment of colds, flu symptoms, coughs, physical fatigue and exhaustion. It is used in massage as an excellent antispasmodic, to relieve muscle pains and rheumatism pains. When used on the skin it stimulates blood circulation, regulates oiliness and smoothes wrinkles. On a psychological level, it awakens, strengthens and brings optimism. Combines very well with: Bergamot, St. John's wort, Clove, Lime, Eucalyptus, Juniper, Lemon, Neroli, Rosemary.

Basil, scientific name Ocimum basilicum is an annual, ornamental plant of the Heilant family with a height exceeding 70cm. Its place of origin is considered to be the tropical and subtropical zones of Africa and Asia, with India as the first center of spread. In ancient Greece, it was cultivated and used as a spice for its strong aroma. Its heavy aroma also owes its ancient Greek name "Okimon" (intense, sharp). It was a medicine for constipation and the heart (Hippocrates), for eye diseases and for the good functioning of the kidneys (Dioskurides). There are also reports of its use by Chinese healers and Ayurvedic medicine in India.
