Carnauba wax is particularly durable and does not dissolve in water, which makes it an ideal waterproof material. It consists mainly of aliphatic esters 40 wt%, 4-hydroxycinnamic acid diesters 21.0 wt%, ω-hydroxycarboxylic acids 13.0 wt%, and fatty acid alcohols 12 wt%. Because it is so hard in texture, carnauba wax is usually combined with other waxes such as beeswax to make it easier to work with. Use very little in your cosmetics if you want them to have a soft to medium consistency. A rate of 0.5-1.0% is enough to make a difference. It provides a glossy finish and protection and is used in car waxes, dental floss, to polish shoes, leather goods, instruments, floors, furniture, etc. It also serves as an alternative to using gelatin or silicone, but also for coating pills in the pharmaceutical industry. Because of its hypoallergenic and emollient properties, as well as the shine it adds, it appears as an ingredient in many cosmetic recipes, where it is used to thicken lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow and other skin care products.

Carnauba wax melts at 82-86°C, a particularly high melting point for natural wax. For comparison, consider that beeswax has a melting point of 62-64 degrees C. To use it, you will melt it with other waxes, butters or oils, since it is completely oil soluble.
Keeps well closed in a shady and dry environment for about 4 years.
