Citronella essential oil
Citronella essential oil
Citronella essential oil has a fresh, herbal, woody aroma with top notes of lemon. It is used in aromatherapy in cases of colds, flu, headaches and menstrual problems. In the massage it relieves rheumatism and fever. However, the most important use of the oil is as an insect repellent, as it effectively repels mosquitoes and blood-sucking insects.
Citronella essential oil can be used topically on the skin, but always diluted in a base oil. It can also be added to a diffuser during the summer months to keep insects out of the home. In addition, it works effectively against lice, is ideal for oily hair and can protect clothes from moths.
"Citronella with the official name Cymbopogon Nardus, is a species of perennial aromatic plant of the Poaceae family, native to tropical Asia. It is the source of an essential oil known as citronella oil, which is widely used for its natural insect repellent properties. It is extracted from the aerial parts of the plant and is used as an insect repellent, particularly to deter blood-eating insects such as mosquitoes."
