Common Rue

Common Rue, officially known as Ruta Graveolens, is an aromatic, evergreen, perennial plant that belongs to the Rutaceae family and thrives mainly in Southern Europe and North Africa. It is a plant known since ancient times, as the ancient Greeks often used it against indigestion. In Roman times, Pliny mentions that painters ate plenty of papaya in order to have good eyesight.

Today, Common Rue is used as a powerful antispasmodic, antitussive and emmenagogue herb. It relieves a strong cough, relieves colic pains and regulates the irregular female cycle, especially in cases where menstruation has stopped. To make a decoction, pour 1-2 spoons of dry herb into a cup of boiling water and leave it for 10-15 minutes.
