Eucalyptus essential oil

Eucalyptus essential oil has a strong and slightly woody aroma of camphor and is known mainly for its properties in the respiratory system. It is used to protect against diseases and viruses and is ideal for treating colds, flu, coughs and sore throats. During a cold, inhalations with eucalyptus essential oil dissolved in boiling water free the respiratory tract. In addition, it is known for its antiseptic properties and is widely used in products for oily and acne-prone skin. On a psychological level, it is used to increase self-concentration, as it clears the mind and relieves neuralgia by acting as a purifier.

 

Eucalyptus is an angiosperm, dicotyledonous, native plant and belongs to the Myrtaceae family. It includes about 550 species of mostly large trees, cultivated in the temperate regions for commercial exploitation and for their shade. Eucalyptus was introduced to Greece by the botanist and scholar Theodoros Orphanidis in 1862. Today, it is even planted in home gardens, since in addition to the shade and coolness it provides, it also repels mosquitoes.
