Hyssop the medicinal (Hyssopus Officinalis), is a herbal plant of the genus Hyssopus, native to Southern Europe, the Middle East and the region around the Caspian Sea. Because of its antiseptic, cough-relieving and expectorant properties, it has historically been used mainly as a medicinal plant.
Hyssop has an interesting range of applications, most of which are due to its antispasmodic effect and is mainly used in cases of colds, coughs, bronchitis and catarrh. It can also serve as a neurotonic in states of restlessness, hysteria and mild epilepsy.
Recent studies report that Hyssop can inhibit the chemicals (urease and α-chymotrypsin) associated with the appearance of stomach ulcers, while its content of pinocamphone (a chemical related to camphor that helps open the airways) can to help in cases of asthma attack.
For the common cold, you combine very well with Agrimony, Elderberry flowers, Mint, Thyme and Eucalyptus.
