The Rose of Jericho (Anastatica hierochuntica), is a very small annual plant with small white flowers, of the Brassicaceae family, found mainly in dry areas of the Middle East and the Sahara desert. The plant has the property of becoming a dry clump when it withers, but when watered after months, maybe even years, it blooms again.
It was traditionally used as an element to divine the climate, since as a natural hygrometer, in dry weather it remains completely closed, in wet weather it opens slowly, while if a storm comes it opens more quickly in an ostentatious manner. Many ancient cultures around the world used the herb to treat a variety of conditions, such as pain, induction of labor, period pains, and more. The natives used the leaves of the plant for their antibacterial properties. By pressing its leaves, they extracted an oil that was used for topical treatment.
