Wild Lavender (scientific name Lavandula Stoechas) grows in great abundance throughout Ikaria. In March, the season of its flowering, the sight of its blooming flowers heralds Spring for us while also marking the beginning of the distillation season. With undivided attention, the people of ikarianature collect only the flowers of the plant along with a small piece of the stem that supports it. They ensure that every stem harvested is a young, tender shoot, and we never take the woody parts of the plant, as this will damage it and reduce the quality of the essential oil. Wild Lavender essential oil has different properties and uses than the oil of the common species Lavandula Angustifolias or True Lavender. Its aroma is more powerful and medicinal, as it has a high content of natural camphor, a substance with excellent antiseptic, antimicrobial and disinfectant properties. It is used to heal wounds, sprains, swellings, cuts and abrasions, while it is also ideal for insect bites. In addition, many studies have shown that wild lavender has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antispasmodic, and sedative effects and appears to contribute significantly to enhancing blood circulation, stimulating the respiratory system by removing mucus from the lungs, and strengthening the immune system. . In perfumery, wild lavender oil is indicated for the treatment of headaches and insomnia, while it is also considered ideal as a massage oil (with a base oil) as it relaxes the muscles and clears the mind of sadness and confusion. Finally, a few drops of lavender oil in the bath promises you a deep, continuous and restful sleep.
