Mountain tea, with the Latin name Sideritis of the botanical family of Lamiaceae, is an herb known since ancient times for its beneficial properties and its incalculable therapeutic value. It is a type of perennial poa that can reach a height of 40cm, which thrives in sunny areas with high altitude and stony soils.
In Greek, the word "Sideritis" can be literally translated as "he who is made of iron". The plant was known in ancient Greece, with numerous references to its medicinal properties by the ancient Greek physicians Dioscorides and Theophrastus.
In traditional therapy, mountain tea is used as a warming, tonic, diuretic, detoxifier, but also as a strong shield against colds.
Today we know that due to its rich content of flavonoids, substances which shield the circulatory and cardiovascular system, it is particularly beneficial for the blood vessels of the heart.
According to recent research, mountain tea seems to have a beneficial effect on the skeleton (against osteoporosis) and the nervous system (Alzheimer's disease).
Mountain tea is harvested in the Greek stony soils at an altitude of over 1000 meters. It is particularly tasty and highly aromatic and can be eaten hot or cold, with some sweetener or plain.
It is ideal for strengthening the immune system, colds, respiratory inflammations, combating indigestion and stomach disorders, while it is one of the few herbs that have not been observed to have side effects due to prolonged consumption.
