Salicylic acid is a natural substance derived from the bark of the white willow tree, from which it takes its name (salix alba). In addition to serving as an important active metabolite of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), it is mainly best known for its use as a basic ingredient in cosmetic products against acne.
